based on the hotplug kernel mechanism. udevd is the daemon. Wait listening from hotplug for a message about a new plugged device. udevd is called by init.d or sbin/init

udev hasn't in charge to load the modules necessaries to the device. The modules have to pre-loaded in order to allow the udev to identify the peripheral and to create the device file.
